Expertise

Dave Malcomson is the Owner-Operator of Malwood Sawmills and has been milling wood since its inception. Although new to this industry, he has been a business owner for over 40 years.

All senior sawmill staff are within a 30 minute drive to our location and have extensive experience working with wood and wood products.

Flexibility

Our Wood-Mizer LT 70, was the largest portable mill in North America when it arrived in April 2021 and one of only a few in Ontario at that time. Our powerful mill is able to handle jobs big and small.

Need drying services or special cuts for wood projects? We have the state-of-the-art equipment to handle that, too.

Value

At Malwood Sawmills, one of our core values is to offer quality products at affordable prices.

We offer what you need, when you need it, at prices that won’t break the bank, whether your job is big or small.

STEP 1

Log Preparation and
Sawing

Incoming logs are scaled then marked for their diameter, sorted by length and stored. The logs are then cut into rough sawn lumber using our bandsaw sawmill based on customer orders and stock requirements.

STEP 2

Drying and
Grading

The freshly cut lumber maybe left rough sawn or kiln dried using one of our 3 kilns or air dried for cedar. A moisture levels of 15% is for exterior grade and 8% for interior grade. Our lumber with loose knots is not sold.

STEP 3

Finishing and
Packaging

Lumber undergoes final processing, such planning/dressing and or sanding before being put ready to sell to a customer or into stock.  Rough sawn is stickered and placed in out storage barn or outside if pine to prevent molding.
